Headlights - Bright Lights For Brighter Driving
Headlights are one of the most important parts of your car. They can make or break your drive since poor visibility can ultimately lead to accidents. Headlights are just lamps that are put at the front of your car help you see during the night or when there is poor visibility during times of bad weather. They make the road brighter for you to see. Therefore, you can be more cautious to other drivers and pedestrians in front of you.
Acetylene or oil was used in the beginning within headlights in the late 1880s. The oil was used since it resisted against wind or rain. In 1898, electric headlights were first introduced and became standard but later dipping headlights became the norm so that drivers wouldn't have to exit their cars to readjust the angle of their lights. Many other lights were invented included fog lights and ultimately beam headlights became standardized within the United States.
In 1924, Bilux bulbs were used but later were switched to halogen lights. They did not become legal in the United States until 1997 with H1 and H3 bulbs. The shape of the lights changed also from round to oval with optical elements. They are electrically operated and normally put into pairs. High beams can be used when you need light straight ahead to maximize seeing distance. Low beams, on the other hand, direct light downward to see shorter distances. It depends on the environment to determine which lights need to be used.
There are three different types of optics as well: lens, reflector, and projector. Lens optics are found in sealed-beams and work by being put the reflector to cause an arc of light. Reflector optics are made from molded plastic. Finally, projector optics have one thread that is focused on the elliptical and the other condensed at the front of the lamp.
Lamps are used too. HID, which are high-intensity discharge lamps, use xenon gas that allows small amount of light at first and then speeds up gradually for a warm-up. Cars that have these lights must have an automatic beam leveling control and a lens cleaning system. This is so that they don't create ultimate, unsafe glare. Therefore, it is important to check them frequently.
Headlights are extremely crucial and must be looked at frequently to maximize their life span and effect. The bulbs can simply be changed if needed and if they become discolored a cleaning kit can be purchased. Therefore, having brighter lights definitely pays off in the end. Remember to check them frequently. This can lead to a life or death situation so it's best not to have any regrets.
