1956 Chevy

The 56 Chevy, followed in the footsteps of the ‘55, with Chevrolet spending $40 million on restyling, including a new larger front grille, with distinctive square parking lights, and larger front fenders.  The sides of the 56 Chevrolet sported new chrome trim, one pattern for each of the three series, the 150, 210 and the Bel Air.  In total, 19 models were offered, ten solid colors, and 14 two tone combinations.  A new body style for 1956 was the 4 door hardtop, which Chevy called the “Sport Hardtop”.

The Chevy Cars of the Thirties


1936 Chevy

The 1930's for Chevy saw the development of the "Stove Bolt Six" motor, putting out an impressive 50 horsepower from it's 194 cubic inches.  After a variety of upgrades and improvements this very solid motor served Chevrolet for almost 30 years.  The 1930 thru 1933 Chevrolets carried new name badges, the Universal, the Independence, the Confederate, the Eagle, and the Mercury.  Yep a Chevy Mercury!  The balance of the 1930's Chevrolet models were called either the "Master" or "Standard" Chevrolet.

The Chevy Cars in the Forties

1948 Chevrolet

The Forties saw Chevy take off and pull away from its primary competitor Ford Motor Company.  The 1940 Special Deluxe Convertible Coupe was a Chevy's first, and they turned out almost 12,000 copies, which helped to beat out Ford by 200,000 cars. 1941 became a banner year for Chevrolet, as they celebrated their first million car production year.

Chevy Classics!

Chevrolet used to have an advertising campaign that touted, "Baseball, apple pie, and Chevrolet." Supposedly, General Motor's largest division attempted to indoctrinate consumers into believing that a Chevrolet was as mainstream as Main Street, USA. In many ways this campaign worked. For generations now the Chevrolet division has been serving up cars that have been snapped up by Americans, particularly those seeking their first car. Let's take a look at three Chevy classics that have shaped the respected US automaker.
