Oldsmobile 's Grand Exit

By Kathy Austin

Everything in this world has its beginning and its end, from human beings, to animals down to things. The conceptualization, birth, and the progress of an idea, a business or an invention entails a lot of time, effort and money as well just to come up with such and sooner or later it will come to an end. Its end will depend on how the people handle the situation to see to it that it will exist for a longer period time.

However this is not the case with Oldsmobile. Oldsmobile is a brand for cars under the umbrella of General Motors. It was founded on 1897 and has been considered as the oldest surviving American automobile marque and as well as one of the oldest in the world. Who would ever a brand who has established its name long before than other world-renowned brands will come to an end. Oldsmobile has been struggling hard in order to go back to its path and be in line with other brands of cars which a lot of people have patronized. Still, there was no good result that came from the effort.

Then, the hardest decision that General Motors has to face, to phase out the brand. Then, the announcement came from General Motors on December 2000, that the brand might be phased out. Indeed it came true, in the late 2001it produced its last new model the 2002 Bravada and seven more models were phase out by stopping its production until April 2004.

The last date for production was on April 29, 2004. The last car that was built for the Oldsmobile brand was Alero GL 4-door sedan, which was signed by the entire line of assembly workers. The Alero GL 4-door sedan, which is Oldsmobile last car produced is now located at R.E Olds Transportation Museum. There are a total of 500 Oldsmobile cars that were produced. The so-called "Final 500", which consists of Aleros, Auroras, Bravadas, and Intrigues. These cars contained special emblems, markings and they were all painted with dark cherry and with special literature.

Oldsmobile had its grand exit by releasing these "Final 500" to the market. This marked the end of Oldsmobile as a brand. It might be said that Oldsmobile might be considered as a collectible item since there are no Oldsmobile automobiles that have been produced. It might cost much, but if you want to have an Oldsmobile automobile in a cheaper price, you can have it.
